ISRO To Launch 5 UK Satellites In Its Heaviest Commercial Mission Ever

India, it seems is soon going to change its status from emerging power to advanced power, specializing in space technology. India’s Mars Orbiter team has even won NSS Space Pioneer Award. Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) is one of the world’s most reliable launch vehicles. It has been used for many successful satellite launches including some historic ones like the recent Mars Orbiter Mission (MoM), Chandrayaan-1, Indian Regional Navigation Satellite (IRNSS) and many other foreign satellites.

In its latest mission, India’s PSLV will be used by United Kingdom’s ‘five satellite set’ for a ride into space. These satellites are built by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited. PSLV-C28, on July 10, will launch those satellites in which three of them weigh 447 kg each. These are the optical earth observation satellites (DMC3) and each one would be separated by 120-degree phase enabling them to take images of any target on Earth.

The payload will include two other satellites, a micro satellite and a nano satellite. The satellites will be launched into a Sun-synchronous Low Earth Orbit (LEO). With all these satellites, Indian PSLV-C28 will commercially launch its heaviest ever payload of 1,440 Kg into space. India has previously launched a French satellite SPOT-7 last year that weighed 712 Kg.

The satellites will be used for surveillance of the earth’s resources and infrastructure. They will also give early warning for disasters and thus a quick emergency alert would be given to the possible affected areas.

Indian launch vehicles are increasingly being used by the foreign Space agencies. This shows the trust that Indian Space Research and Organization (ISRO) has garnered all over the world with its cutting-edge technology and cost effective launches. After India’s highly appreciated Mars Orbiter Mission, ISRO has announced its Mars-2 Mission to be launched in 2018.

Gamer Drugged His Girlfriend To Continue Playing Video Game

video game lovers and addicts

We have heard the stories of video game lovers and addicts. Kids glued to their consoles and hours of continuous gaming, without caring enough to eat or drink is something even I can relate to. But this incident takes the gaming addiction to whole another level.

AGerman gamer confessed in court that he had drugged his girlfriend in order to play in peace. He admitted of adding four-five drops of his stuff into her tea, as reported by German newspaper WAZ. The man explained his bizarre action to his girlfriend (now ex), the next day.

He didn’t want his girlfriend to nag him through his gaming session with his friend. So, he decided to put her to sleep for some time. The woman was knocked out until the following midday. While driving to the office afterward, she still felt the effects.

The girl added that her boyfriend had been taking drugs at that time. The judged has sentenced the man to pay a fine of €500 and slammed him for causing premeditated bodily harm to his girlfriend.

This is one of the many odd actions game addicts have taken so that no one would disturb them while they are on the console.

WiFi Routers Will Charge Your Phone’s Battery: WiFi Charging

This is one technology that everyone is waiting for to arrive. Every person had given a thought to it and wished something like that could happen in future. How easy would life become if you won’t have to sit beside a wall while your phone gets charged! It would be revolutionary if the project for charging of electronic devices by RF energy is synthesized.

News regarding this technology and that various companies are already working to test the charging potentials are rife. The technology by which even with your motion, batteries could be charged is also being worked upon. Batteries have been charged before too without wire, but that required close vicinity with the charging gadget or by induction in power mats.

Various companies like Energous (WATT) and Nikola Labs have devised their own ways to increase the productivity of the electronic gadgets. While Energous’ model is based on utilizing Radio Frequency Wave energy that is sent and received by the cell phone itself, Nikola Labs have created a smartphone case that harness the energy that mobile phone wastes while searching for reception signals from cell towers and wi-fi routers.

To harness radio wave energy, a station is developed that directly converts radio energy into electrical energy. It would require a special transmitter that sends energy and a receiver  that would receive signals that would later be converted to energy to charge the gadget.

Nikola smart cases will be available in the markets later in 2015 while Energous RF chargers are in the creative stages where the receivers will be embedded in the gadgets itself.

Things will become incredibly simple if an efficient way such as ‘RF charging’ is developed for the electronic devices. Charging while on the move would also increase the productivity of the users.

Organic Computer: Researchers Can Make Internet by Connecting Your Brains

Most of us agree that our brains work better than computers (and some don’t). So why not connect multiple brains to perform a task more proficiently? Recently, the researchers at Duke University proposed the working conecept of Brainets – a network made using multiple animal brains to exchange of information using brain-to-brain interfaces. They have connected brains of four rats to make a “Brainet” that finishes any task faster and more efficiently than an individual.

For the first time, multiple brains have been connected to perform some work. The research team used electrodes to connect the brains of rats and monkeys to carry out simple functions like moving a computer-generated arm. The team connected four rat brains using two sets of electrodes and sent an identical signal to the brain of each rat. The response time was then monitored on a computer. This connected arrangement was called an organic computer or, brainet.

Rats obviously need some training to perform a function again and again. So, each time a rats reacted with same response they were given water. After multiple tries, rats learnt how to coordinate the response. Surprisingly, the success rate was found as huge as 87 percent.

After rats, monkeys were used to perform tests and two monkeys were connected with electrodes and computer. After this, one monkey had to look at the computer screen that showed a picture of a ball and arm. The combined signals from brains of monkeys had to move the objects which they learnt eventually.

They sat that once the animals started behaving together, they did tests just the way computers store information for future and recall it. It was found that if the animals weren’t sleeping, this was possible. The Brainets performed at higher levels than a single animal in the tasks. Thus, researchers worked to create a superbrain by joining multiple brains.

Google X Founder: Downloading Our Personalities To Computers Possible Soon

The next step is to work on the possibilities of connecting human brain in order to do wonders in medical science by using someone else’s brain to treat a paralyzed patient. If human brains are connected, Organic Computers would surely open a whole era of research and invocation.

Can Computer Judge Your Personality Better Than Your Mom?

Social networking has become a major part of lives these days. ‘Being online’ is what that is trending! We spend more time online than with our family. Does that mean a lifeless machine made up of lifeless materials knows about our personality better than ones who brought us up? Well, stats answer it as a YES!

A study submitted by PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) , US concluded on the statement that computer-based judgments about personality of a person can be more accurate than those by his or her friends and family.

Nothing is believed till it’s proven with evidences. Following graphical representation very obviously shows that computer system is nearly as accurate as the spouse of the person in making personality judgments about him or her. Family and friends lag behind. Work colleagues knowing least.

The survey was conducted on about ten thousand people asking them to fill a personality test. The personality test consisted of questions revealing five basic traits about a person i.e. extraversion, openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness and neuroticism.

The computer model made its judgments based on Facebook likes! This might sound a hoax to few. It was actually based on likes on Facebook pages about movies, books, TV shows, music, etc. rather than likes on statuses or photos.

“For me it’s not completely surprising, because if I went on a blind date with someone I’d never met before and they were telling me their favorite music and their favorite films, what sports they like playing, then I could make a judgment about what kind of person they are,” said David Stillwell, deputy director of Cambridge University’s Psychometrics Centre, told Motherboard.

“But obviously what’s different about our analysis is it’s a computer doing this analysis automatically, without having any real understanding of, what is Big Brother? It only knows what people who like Big Brother are generally like.”

Such studies and results are expected to add to more understanding of psychological aspects. “The ability to accurately assess psychological traits and states, using digital footprints of behavior, occupies an important milestone on the path toward more social human-computer interactions,” PNAS paper concluded.

These results may also serve as the foundation of innovative tools, for example, getting an insight of someone’s personality. This could be used in suggesting career options or sorting out candidates.

So this could be a threat to ones indulged in palmistry!

We were paid N2,500 to bomb Yola barracks – Arrested kids

There was a bomb attack on Thursday in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, the Adamawa Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Luka Ikpi, told journalists.

The magnitude of the explosion which extended to the state headquarters of

the FRSC, according to him, made the sector to draft its intelligence officers to the scene of the incident which was opposite the command.

He said, “When I heard the loud bang, I had to run out of my office to inquire what really happened.”

It was gathered from a resident of the state, Abraham Tunoh, that the bomb, which occurred on Thursday at the Kofare area of Yola, close to a mechanic workshop along Numan Road, was in possession of four children. The children told the police that an unknown man gave them N2, 500 to carry out the attack.

It was gathered that the Boko Haram insurgent instructed them to drop the explosive at a specific place in Bachure suburb, near the Army Barracks mainly inhabited by retired military personnel.

A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said two of the kid messengers who were arrested by the police told interrogators that “an unknown person gave us N2,500 to drop the explosive at the barracks.”

The boys were aged between nine and 15 years. The two arrested boys said the bag containing the explosive was too heavy for them to carry, so they had to sell it to a dustbin scavenger, whom they ran into at the nearby mechanic workshop.

The dustbin scavenger, said to have been arrested, has been helping the police in their investigation.

He told the police that while they were negotiating with the four bearers of the container, he started noticing smoke coming from it and before he could inquire about its content, it exploded, shattering his legs and injuring two of the children.

While two of them fled, the other injured two were arrested by the police.

The police source also revealed that in the ensuing confusion that followed the loud bang from the blast, two of the bearers sneaked away from the scene of the blast.

It will be recalled just a month ago, there was a bomb attack at a night market in Yola that led to the death of many persons.

Buhari rejects N400m armoured cars

President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down an offer by the Federal Government to procure five new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars for his use.

The cars which total cost is put at about N400m were planned to be purchased by the State House.

A Presidency source told journalists on Thursday that Buhari got to know of the plan when the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr. Nebolisa Emodi, was briefing him of his ministry’s activities on Wednesday.

Miffed by the revelation, the President was said to have told Emodi that the purchase was unnecessary.

Describing it as a waste of scarce resources, the source said Buhari told the permanent secretary that the cars he inherited from former President Goodluck Jonathan were good enough for him.

“I don’t need any new cars. The ones I am using now are just fine,” the source quoted the President as saying.

The top government officials, however, said Buhari welcomed other initiatives presented by the permanent secretary to reduce the operating costs of the State House and strengthen its Finance and Accounts Internal Control Mechanisms.

He however directed that more efforts be made henceforth to capture all State House expenses within the approved national budget.

This, he said, was to avoid the frequent recourse by past administrations to “Presidential intervention funds.”

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, confirmed to our correspondent that Buhari had withheld approval for the purchase of the new cars.

Shehu said the President would continue to use the cars left behind by Jonathan in keeping with his commitment to prudent management of national resources.

Our correspondent learnt that the proposal to procure the new cars was first made to Jonathan before he left office.

The former President was however said to have directed that it be represented to Buhari for approval on his assumption of office since the cars could only be delivered some months after the May 29 handover date.

Meet Smartphones of Future: Google’s Project Ara Modular Phones

The modern smartphones are known for their adaptability and flexibility. You can use your smartphone to make payments, keep an eye on your health issues, snap pictures on the go, monitor your eating habits and a lot more.

But this flexibility is only limited to the software part and concerns only about keeping the operating system and applications up to date.

This lack of adaptability on hardware level has many disadvantages. You phone becomes outdated in a couple of years and you have to buy a new phone to take advantage of improvements happening. You can install new apply to fit your needs and lifestyle but you can’t alter its hardware.

What is Google’s Project Ara modular phone?

Google has heard your prayers and it’s on its way to change this notion about smartphones by its moon-shot project Ara smartphones. Project Ara is Google’s modular phone project which involves heavy customization and building a phone according to user needs.

Google has surely taken inspiration from Lego toys and is making a phone which will be assembled by users according to their requirements. Google will be selling just a basic frame and users will add or remove modules by adding or removing blocks from the frame. All you need to do is buy a basic frame from Google and add all other components according to your need.

Watch the video below to know:

What is so special about Project Ara modular phones?

If you need a better camera, swap your existing camera module with a new one and you’ve got a new phone with improved camera. If you are bored with phone’s constant lagging problem, you’ve got an option to upgrade the processor. With Project Ara modular phones, you won’t have to settle for the features you don’t want.

You can have multiple modules for the same function at a time. Want to use your Ara phone for a longer time? The battery life is in your hands, use two modules of the battery to get the extra power.

Google has chosen an interface protocol known as UniPro for transfer of data between module. UniPro is a set of hardware and software standards similar to USB.

The basic module/frame (endoskeleton) of Ara phone will come in three sizes and users can select whether they want a small device, standard size or phablet. The frame has grid of slots which will be the home of modules of different shapes and functions. Data transfer takes place by a technique called inductive coupling. The parts and coils for power transfer don’t make any type of physical contact, so swapping of modules won’t cause damage to the parts.

What will be the Operating System?

Project Ara modular phones will run on a special version of brand newAndroid 5.0 Android Lollipop operating system. The software will be boast the capability to ensure tussle free swapping of modules without rebooting the phone.

What will be the price?

Google is expecting to release the basic smartphone at a low price of $50. First Project Ara smartphones are expected to hit the martek next month.

What’s interesting for developers?

Google is organizing a Project Ara event – the Ara Developers Conference, the second conference of its type, on January 14th. Google has also released the alpha of Project Ara MDK version 0.2. This 0.2 MDK includes details about latest project prototype along with a new “Greybus” communications protocol suite. This Greybus suit helps different modules to communicate with each other and phone’s heart.

“After signup, module developers and vendors will be able to submit a module offering for a pre-dedefined review process to ensure modules are compliant with the specifications outlined in this MDK document.” – Google

Developers are also provided with Project Ara Module Marketplace, which is a platform for module makers to sell their hardware via Google Play Store.

Developers can download MDK release 0.2 below:

Project Ara MDK 0,2 Release – Developers

Just like its other projects, Google is aiming something bigger and out of the box with Project Ara modular phones. It’s true that all experiments of Google haven’t succeeded in the past, ut that doesn’t diminish the power of modular phones. Everything depends on developers and the efficiency of modules. With this initiative, users will get the desired customization and independent developers will try to exist along with the technology giants in the marketplace simultaneously.

Soon Your Cracked Smartphone Screen Will Repair Itself

A cracked screen is a nightmare for a smartphone user. Don’t bother guessing, this is how I lost my previous cell phone (still grieving). Replacing a broken screen is a tough and expensive task, but researchers have developed a “self-healing” glass and paint technology that will make sure that our future smartphones will have an unbreakable screen.

This self-healing glass innovation could be used to repair a verity of objects ranging from cracked smart phones, car windshields, bike helmets and other objects. This technology has been developed by a team of researchers at the University of Bristol and it has been perfected after three years of hard work under the team leader Professor Duncan Wass. Professor Duncan told the Independent that they are at a point where in next five to ten years we’ll see things like healing mobile screens.

Made from a combination of various carbon-based chemicals, this new substance contains tiny “microspheres.” When these are broken along with the screen breakage, a liquid-like material is released. Then a chemical reaction takes place that hardens and effectively fills to fix the cracks.

This self-healing technology was initially developed to be employed in the airplane wings that will fix themselves.

The inspiration of this self-healing material has been taken from the human body. BGR writes that our body hasn’t evolved to withstand any damage- whenever we get a cut, our body seals it and then it is healed. The same kind of function has been tried to be incorporated into a synthetic material.

Apart from airplane and cell phone self-healing, L’Oreal too is interested in this technology. The consumer products manufacturing company wants to employ this technology is some kind of self-healing nail paint.

This self-healing technology is under development and as the researchers state, this could be a reality in next five to ten years and save users from lots of trouble.

Mozilla Firefox vs Microsoft Edge: Mozilla Bringing Windows 10 Version

Microsoft bringing an Internet Explorer replacement in Windows 10, was one of first news regarding the new and final iteration of Windows. Theofficial launch date of Windows 10 is just around the corner and web browsing in Windows 10 is one of the most talked about features. Today, we will ask Microsoft Edge to take a back seat and let Firefox be the hero of this story.

While Microsoft has released Edge in the latest Windows 10 builds, Mozilla is gearing up for a revamped version of its popular browser Firefox. The company said in a statement that they will be soon releasing a dedicated version for iOS and Windows 10.

It should be noted that Opera has already announced its own Windows 10 version. Last year, Firefox announced that it is stopping work on a touch-based Firefox version and this announcement is being seen as an attempt to gain some more market share.

Mozilla Firefox is loved by many, but it has witnessed a decline in market share since early 2014 and it has managed to do some recovery in the first half of 2015. Now Mozilla has dumped its current 18-week release cycle and is going to accelerate the releases. Well, this surely looks as if the company has taken inspiration from their friends at Redmond.

Currently, little is known about the Firefox for Windows 10 and company has said that it will be a high-performing and independent alternative to the stock browser.

Mozilla has launched a new program named “Great or Dead” that implies that every feature in Firefox must be polished, fun to use, and functional. If that state isn’t reached, it shouldn’t be done at all.

7nm IBM Chip is the Most Powerful Chip Ever Created

With the size of the processing chips shrinking continuously and presently with parts of about 14nm width, people thought that we have reached theend of the Moore’s curve. So, technology pioneer IBM thought, let’s prove everyone wrong with our 7nm chip!

IBM has just announced that they had lifted up the record of the smallest chip by scaling down the size to 7nm in width. While the chip designers across the world were scoring for the 10nm scale and considered 7nm chips too difficult to fabricate, IBM has passed the technical problems and created a chip whose parts are about the same size as the red blood cell.

The company says it achieved the 7nm chip feat by using silicon-germanium channels in the chip’s elements. Till now only silicon had been used in chip designs. The new combination of semiconductors allows the chip to process faster. It means that the transistors inside switch at a faster rate than in previous chips and also use less energy.

For fabricating this 7nm chip, IBM used a narrow wavelength of UV light for the fine etching of the components and stacked the transistors closer without interference.

IBM has now started to work on manufacturing the new 7nm chips on a large scale. They have tested a number of designs to make the manufacturing of chips cost-effective. IBM plans to build a fabrication plant for $3 billion in New York state, with investors like Samsung and others. The chips are believed to come as the new processing brains for machines from 2018.

Intil now, the 14nm scale chips had 1.9 billion transistors whereas IBM’s 7nm chips will have about 20 billion. This development would drastically improve the speed of the processors.

It looks like IBM just saved Moore’s Law validity for a few more years.

Finally new Facebook App allows users to see who deleted them

Who Deleted Me : Here’s how you can see who deleted you on Facebook

Finally there is help at hand for those Facebook users who have hundreds of followers. One of the problems of having many followers and friends is that you dont know who has deleted you from the friends list. Who Deleted Me app for both Android and iOS allows users to keep track of their friends list and find out who deleted them.

According to TheNextWeb.com, the app is similar to Who Unfollowed Me for Twitter, which tells the users when friends have disappeared from their list and whether they have deactivated their accounts or actually deleted the user.

When the users download the app it will not show them friends who have deleted them in the earlier period. It only starts tracking from the time the user activate it. Also, it shows the users their newest friends, people they have chosen to block and a ‘last seen’ stamp for everyone in their list.

The App has been created by Exeter-based developer Anthony Kuske and is available for free on Android and iOS. There is also a free browser extension for Chrome.

The app used to be available on Facebook till April 2015, but had to be removed after Facebook updated its policies.

You can download the App for your Android smartphone from here and for iOS devices from here, while the Chrome extension is available here.

World’s Fastest Camera Captures 100 Billion Frames Per Second

Did any of you guys ever wonder of seeing light as it travels? Well the researchers at Washington University in St. Louis have designed the world’s fastest camera that can capture Light photons.

Lihong Wang led a team of biomedical engineers to develop world’s fastest 2-D camera that can slow down the processes to 100 billion frames per second. The current ultrafast imaging techniques could capture up to 10 million frames per second.

The research featuring in the nature, the team of scientists have used a technology called Compressed Ultrafast Photography and took images of the four physical phenomenon of light: reflection, refraction, non-information (faster than light propagation) and photons racing in two media.

Wang said:

For the first time, humans can see light pulses on the fly. Because this technique advances the imaging frame rate by orders of magnitude, we now enter a new regime to open up new visions. Each new technique, especially one of a quantum leap forward, is always followed a number of new discoveries. It’s our hope that CUP will enable new discoveries in science — ones that we can’t even anticipate yet.

The applications of this super duper fast camera are multi-fold. This high-speed frame rate could be used in astronomy and forensics. Wang and his team complemented and added algorithms to the existing technology known as ‘streak camera’ that measured the intensity variations of light with time in 1-D.

In the CUP technology, an object is photographed with a special lens, which captures the photons from the object and drives it through a tube-like structure to a tiny apparatus called a digital micromirror device (DMD), hosting about 1 million micromirrors. Each micromirror is seven-by-seven microns squared.

There, micromirrors are used to encode the image, then reflect the photons to a beam splitter, which shoots the photons to the widened slit of a streak camera. The photons are converted to electrons, which are then sheared with the use of two electrodes, converting time to space. The electrodes apply a voltage that ramps from high to low, so the electrons will arrive at different times and land at different vertical positions. An instrument called a charge-coupled device (CCD) stores all the raw data. All of this occurs at the breathtaking pace of 5 nanoseconds. One nanosecond is a billionth of a second.

The CUP technology could be used in integration with the current devices. This advanced technology would also help in the field of medicine and biochemistry. Combining CUP imaging with the Hubble Telescope, we will get both the sharpest spatial resolution of the Hubble and the highest temporal solution with CUP and thus have never seen before images of the universe.

The world’s fastest camera can unfold world’s oldest mysteries. Did you find this intriguing? Tell us in comments below.

Meet Lily, the world’s first throw and shoot camera drone that can capture everything you do

Lily is the world’s first throw and shoot camera drone that is always following you no matter where you go.

Set to diversify action filmmaking away from POV shots, the self-flying Lily Camera is initiated with a simple toss in the air. All you have to do is throw it in the air to start shooting. It is designed mainly for sport enthusiasts. The Lily Camera can have a lot of uses other than recording. It then follows its owner, capturing HD footage at 1080p/60fps or 720p/120fps and 12 MP images at up to 25mph. It has waterproof synced audio through the tracking device; this buzz requires very little user control, perfect for filmmakers who often find themselves in front of the camera. The only thing you’ll need to do is make sure you stay away from trees, buildings and other obstacles because, like the 90s song, the Lily will go wherever you will go.

Perhaps only reading about it is not convincing enough, but when you’ll watch the video you will realize that this could be one of the coolest gadgets that you could ever own. The self flying drone that can capture everything you do is designed to follow you outdoors with the help of complex software and a GPS tracker.

It can fly at a minimum altitude above your head of 5 ft (1.75m) and a max of 50 ft (15m). It has a 20 min flight autonomy provided by a Built-in Lithium-Ion Battery that needs 2 hours to be fully charged. It weights 2.8 lbs (1.3kg) and it’s 10.29in x 10.29in (26×26 cm).

The initial price is really amazing, costing only $499 until the 15th of June. If you order it now you will obtain it in February 2016. You will have to pay the full retail price of $999 if you decide to wait until the official launching. Additional accessories such as propellers, cases, etc. will be available for purchase online. Buying it now and changing your mind afterwards comes with no penalties, as your money will be fully refunded.

This project started in September 2013 when Antoine Balaresque and Henry Bradlow built the first prototype of Lily in the basement of the UC Berkeley robotics lab.

Now totally free from having to hold or maneuver a camera, the Lily owner can be featured and included in all shots from casual outdoor activities to travel, snow, surf, golf, hiking, boating, and family adventures.

“Point-and-shoot devices, action cameras, camcorders, and DSLRs have served us well on the ground and attached to drones, but we’ve always wanted a richer, more contextual point-of-view,” said Antoine Balaresque, CEO and co-founder of Lily. “Lily automatically creates exciting close range photos and wide, cinematic shots previously reserved for professional filmmakers.”

The Lily Camera is tough enough to endure challenging winds and water. “Home base” to Lily is the owner’s hand. Through the tracking device, the owner commands Lily to make a graceful palm landing. That same tracking device also enables audio recording which is automatically synchronized with the camera’s footage, an option not offered on drones that carry a separate camera.

A technology that could make your phone’s internet 1,000 times faster than 4G/LTE

Artemis Networks working on a new high speed pCell Wireless Technology which will give users Internet speed 1000 times faster than 4G/LTE networks

SIM’s with pCell Wireless Technology to be available in San Francisco.

Entrepreneur Steve Perlman who is well known for his invention of Web TV has now come up with a new pCell Wireless Technology which can help in accelerating the speed of internet on smartphones.

Researchers at Perlman’s new start up Artemis Networks; just a 3 year old baby, have come up with a pCell Wireless Technology which can provide about 1000 times greater internet speed as compared to 4G/LTE networks.

Consumers need to purchase a SIM card from the Artemis Network’s website to get their phones connected to pCell network. Internet users on smartphones have seen the conventional speeds of the internet from 2G to 3G to now 4G however pCell Wireless technology claims to provide 1000 times better speed than 4G networks and also boast to wipe out the “call drops” in crowded places, gatherings or stadiums, secluded areas which are normally offline due to unavailability of phone network.

The apprehensive wireless industry needs proof to believe this and hence Perlman is going to build a network of pCell Wireless Technology using DISH Network’s spectrum at San Francisco. For San Fransisco users who have an unlocked iPhone 6 or iPad Air 2, the Artemis SIM cards can be directly inserted in the device.

Reason for choosing the Apple’s iPhone for pCell to work is that Apple unlocked iPhones come with all spectrum bands built-in where Android smartphones, though unlocked have limited spectrum band options.

Concept of pCell WirelessTechnology as against the traditional carriers

Normally gigantic signals emitted by the huge traditional cell towers are shared by the phones within that cell or area. As against this, pCell network is build by “hotspot like” devices known as pWaves which emit the radio waves. Also the traditional cell towers are spaced far off in such a way as to cover huge areas and their waves do not interfere each other however in pCell the pWaves are purposely spaced in such a way so that the radio waves collide with each other which helps to create an individual network for each user.

So basically Artemis would be using the criss-crossing of these radio waves to provide a higher availability of the cellular network to its users. Also as against the traditional cell towers which are huge and take a lot of space the pWaves are small, about the size of wireless router and hence can be placed anywhere.

Perlman has plans to use the rooftops in San Francisco to deploy pWaves and due to the smaller size of this unit, the overall cost of its infrastructure would be greatly reduced. He told Business Insider that larger numbers of pWaves will be placed in such a way that pCell Wireless Network can cover the area more accurately as compared to the traditional cell tower.

Perlman has plans to set up the pCell network at San Francisco first to prove his concept to the wireless industry as he sees future tie ups with the other larger carriers in other cities for pCell.

Since he is launching the pCell network only in San Francisco for now, the Artemis Networks SIM card will work on the Mobile Virtual Network Operator or MVNO network in cases when the user goes out of city limits. Basically MVNO networks are not self owned service providers and larger carriers lease out their spectrum to these MVNO. MVNOs are well known for providing voice and data serviced at lower and flexible rates.

pCell is still awaiting Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approvals and the MVNO tie up formalities. Artemis Networks has plans to go live by this fall or early next year. Perlman has assured that Artemis Network will provide different plans option for its users with unlimited data plan which will cost much lower than what the conventional carriers are charging and this will be due to the lower infrastructure and capital expenses.

However he has refused to divulge the plan rates as of now. Artemis Networks also has plans to provide device similar to a MiFi wireless router which will provide wireless network at homes. The Artemis I Hub, will be available for some mobile operators for trial from Tuesday.

An innovative approach by the Artemis team is really need of the hour as internet is becoming part and parcel of day to day life so some out of the box idea which will save the user’s pocket along with providing higher internet speed is truly incredible.

Welcome to 1000x speeds Frisco!

Yahoo Search Partners with Google Search and Internet Goes Crazy

In an unprecedented but much-needed move, Yahoo! Inc. has announced that it is working with Google Inc. on a new partnership to use the Google for some regular search results and search ads. It should be duly noted that back in 2008, the Justice Department blocked Yahoo from making a similar kind of deal with Google.

Yahoo search is currently powered by Microsoft’s Bing and two companies moved into a new agreement this year that granted Yahoo more freedom and that has resulted into this partnership. This would mean that you will be seeing some results in Yahoo search that will be powered by Google.

Earlier this week on Wednesday, Yahoo confirmed that it has begun testing the Google ads for a small portion of desktop as well as the mobile search results. In a statement, Yahoo said that they aim to create the absolute best experiences for its users and such tests are run by the company with new partners from time to time. The company declined to give further details.

Yahoo’s new partner Google also confirmed this new relationship. These tests were first noted by the SEO Book founder Aron Wall.

Yahoo head Marissa Mayer has been pretty aggressive in the recent past as Yahoo secured deals like Yahoo search integration in Mozilla Firefox and Oracle’s Java software. The New York Times writes that this search deal between Google and Yahoo could attract some antitrust scrutiny.

Under the revised deal in April with Microsoft, Yahoo has the right to use its homegrown search technology or from other providers (e.g. Google). Well, the future of this long time Yahoo-Bing partnership is uncertain and it could come to an end by October as the new terms show that they aren’t as dependent on each other as they were in 2009 when they signed the deal.

Did this Yahoo search and Google partnership surprise you? Tell us in comments below.

Ghost: This Technology Literally Comes Out of the Screen

Touch screen laptops and desktops are soon going to be outdated if a new technology called the GHOST project becomes mainstream. This technology lends you the power to interact with your computer and data in a 3D physical way.

This exciting new technology allows you to change the shape of the display with your own hands and aims to revolutionize the way you interact with your laptops, smartphones and other devices with displays. The GHOST stands for “Generic, Highly-Organic Share-Changing Interfaces”. If this becomes successful, imagine touching the images on your screen and pulling out objects and data to play with them.

Our current displays are flat (or somewhat curved without any purpose) and the GHOST Project wants to change that. This project was launched in January 2013 and is supported by EU.

The GHOST coordinator Professor Kasper Hornbæk, University of Copenhagen, talks about the future applications varying from everyday interaction with smartphones to learning with computers and designing. He adds that it isn’t just confined to deformation of the screen-shape, instead it wants you to give chance to interact with an object and change its shape mid-air.

This technology could also be coupled with the ultrasound levitation to project the display out of the flat screen. Now a surgeon will have the freedom to work with a virtual brain before operating a real-life brain. Think about the artists and designers who can remold their virtual clay and store it back in their computers. Let’s not forget the musicians- the GHOST Project researchers are working to create interfaces like pads and sponges to help them control speed, timbre and other parameters of EDM.

The good news is that GHOST has already a prototype called “Emerge” that actually works and you can pull out data from bar graphs off the computer screen, as shown above in picture.

The University of Bristol, one of the partners in the GHOST Project has launched a startup named UltraHaptics to develop the technology to create feelings in mid-air using ultrasound.

I came across this technology today and I found it very intriguing. What are your thoughts about the GHOST Project? Share your opinions in comments below.

After Bill Gates, Now Zuckerberg Predicts The Future

Is Facebook’s founder and CEO trying to do a “Bill Gates” here??

Recently there was a wave of media attention around the predictions made by Bill Gates in his book ‘Business @the Speed of Thought’ that as of now, have come true. Now, this time Mark Zuckerberg shared his perception of the future. The Facebook chief said:

People will still carry phones in their pockets, at least for the next 10 years, but they’ll also be wearing augmented-reality glasses to assist them on an everyday basis.

Let us take a look at his premonitions:

1. Telepathy

Wait, isn’t that science fiction!! Going by what Zuckerberg says, telepathy is the next logical step after virtual reality. The Facebook founder feels that technology is going to evolve to a limit that thought sharing would go to another level. The way we communicate our feelings and emotions will not include any physical medium per se.

Many scientists have already asserted the fact that one day we will be able to unleash the power of our brain to do unimaginable things, telepathy being one of them.

That means no more phone and data recharges. Of course, there may be another thing to charge in the future. Just imagine, talking to your friends through telepathy and laughing in public like crazy, while no one has a clue what has happened. Telepathy would bring in the final chapter in the textbooks of the communication technology.

2. Advanced Artificial Intelligence

Zuckerberg wants to create an artificial intelligence system that is so advanced that it exceeds the limit of human perception of seeing and hearing. An artificial intelligence system that views and understands the image contents as humans do.

The technology already exists today and is used in various places. Google Photos and Facebook’s face recognition are a few examples. However, Zuckerberg wants to take it to new levels where the machine can interpret and then describe an image or a video on its own.

3. Lasers From Sky

Mark Zuckerberg has an ambitious plan to get everyone hitched to Facebook and Internet and his internet Lasers are the way to do it. The company is working on laser communication systems that beam the internet down from the sky. The system will be attached to the drones and direct emission of the internet from the sky will hugely increase the speed over long distances and also cover the places that have not been wired yet.

4. Virtual Reality world

Telepathy is the talk of the future whereas Virtual Reality is NOW. Big names like Google, Microsoft (HoloLens), Epic Games including Facebook have ventured into the prospects of Virtual Reality. VR is already termed the “next big thing” and it is the next level of computing, gaming and communication after phones.

Facebook’s Oculus Rift is already making headlines with its Virtual Reality headset that is soon going to be available in the market.

5. Meta Humans

Again, consider this either as  Zuckerberg’s fantasy or his philanthropy. In his recently held Q&A session on his Facebook timeline, he answered a questionput up by Mr. Stephen Hawkins by his own plethora of questions. He sounded like he really wants to do something for the mankind.

He was mostly concerned about people, asked the genius how is it possible to live forever, how to cure all diseases and make our brain super smart to learn a million times more.

Well, it seems that with the ever advancing technology, most of the questions will be provided with an answer soon. While Mankind is bound to take a leap into the future and evolve to sustain itself, metahumans or superhumans won’t be a fiction then. That’s what Darwin proposed, isn’t it?

Do you agree with Mark Zuckerberg?? Tell us in comments below.

THE SELF-DRIVING CAR REPORT: Forecasts, tech timelines, and the benefits and barriers that will impact adoption

Self-driving cars are no longer a futuristic idea. Companies like Mercedes, BMW, and Tesla have already released, or are soon to release, self-driving features that give the car some ability to drive itself.

Tech companies are also trying to pioneer the self-driving car. Recently, Google announced that it would be testing its prototype of a driverless car on roads this summer in California.

In a new report from BI Intelligence, we analyze the self-driving car market by analyzing the current state of the self-driving car and provide an in-depth analysis for how we see the self-driving car progressing over the next five years. Our in-depth analysis describes the economic impact that self-driving cars can have and look at the current barriers preventing the self-driving car from coming to market.

Get the full report now >>

Here are some of the key takeaways from the report:

Self-driving cars are not some futuristic auto technology; in fact there are already cars with self-driving features on the road.  We define the self-driving car as any car with features that allow it to accelerate, brake, and steer a car's course with limited or no driver interaction. We divide the self-driving car into two different types: semi-autonomous and fully autonomous. A fully autonomous vehicle can drive from point A to point B and encounter the entire range of on-road scenarios without needing any interaction from the driver. These will debut  in 2019.By the end of the forecast period, we expect there will be nearly 10 million cars with one of our defined self-driving car features. Fully autonomous cars are further divided into user-operated and driverless vehicles. Because of regulatory and insurance questions, user-operated fully autonomous cars will come to market within the next five years, while driverless cars will remain a long ways off.The biggest benefits of self-driving cars are that they will help to make roads safer and people's lives easier. In the UK, KPMG estimates that self-driving cars will lead to 2,500 fewer deaths between 2014 and 2030.But the barriers to self-driving cars remain significant. Costs need to come down and regulations need to be clarified around certain self-driving car features before the vehicles fully take off among mainstream consumers.

Mark Zuckerberg Answers Questions From Stephen Hawking and Schwarzenegger

Facebook had regularly held Q&A sessions with its users in the past. This time Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the company, was to answer the questions on his timeline, where he got a hell of the questions from the general public as well as the celebrities.

Stephen Hawking, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Arianna Huffington hogged the limelight in the Tuesday’s Q&A session asking the questions from their respective fields. The names surprised much of the Facebook’s user community, and might have done the same to Zuckerberg too. The timing, however, creates an impression of  a crafted marketing strategy.

Hawking stunned the Facebook boss by asking ‘Unified theory of Gravity’ and also coaxed him of his own queries on science that he would like to get answered. Mark took the opportunity and like a young kid asked all the questions from the genius that bothered him.

Jenni Moore, CMO Business Manager at Alexion Pharmaceuticals asked on Mark’s views on technology and social media connecting the world. In came a long reply from the boss on their current as well as future projects.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was more concerned about today’s generation health and asked Mark if he could tell his way of staying fit to the youth. P.S  ‘Will the machines WIN??’

Arianna Huffington, co-founder of The Huffington Post wanted to know the future of the online journalism.

Zuckerberg answered some not so famous users too with some cheeky answers. The answer to ” How will you react if you woke up next morning and there is no Facebook” was simple and upbeat “I’d build it”. This Q&A session with the Facebook founder would be considered a success by most of the analysts, taken the publicity it generated due to the aforementioned people.

Were your questions answered by Mark Zuckerberg? What questions would you like to ask?

HOW TO STOP SNORING EASILY AND GET A DECENT NIGHT’S SLEEP (AT LAST)

Most people don’t get enough sleep at night. For many people being sleep deprived means not functioning as well as they could be, but for millions of other people lack of sleep is a sign of a serious health condition.

People who are suffering from exhaustion, high blood pressure and inexplicable headaches are all showing symptoms of a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Why don’t people with OSA get the sleep that they need every night? The answer may surprise you—it’s snoring!

Snoring causes a person to wake up throughout the night. For most, snoring is simply a case of having to move your body from a bad position into one that’s more comfortable to breathe in. But for the 18 million people in the United States suffering from OSA, snoring is their body’s cry for help. Throughout the night people with OSA literally stop breathing.  They stop breathing because the muscles in their mouth, jaw, and throat relax, blocking the free flow of air in the airway. These moments of suffocation can last for up to an entire minute. A person with OSA wakes up hundreds of times during a single night as their bodies try not to suffocate. Snoring is their body’s only way to get enough air to breathe.

The result is that when people with OSA get out of bed in the morning, they feel like they haven’t slept at all. And it’s true—they have not had a full sleep cycle. Not only are their bodies exhausted, they have opened up an entire range of new health problems that are associated with this extreme sleep loss, including heart attacks, depression, strokes, memory loss, acid reflux and diabetes.

In the past, there weren’t that many treatment options available for people with sleep apnea. They could go and get an expensive diagnosis, and then drop several thousand dollars visiting a sleep clinic that would require an annoying overnight visit. One of the possible outcomes for such patients would be having to strap themselves into a CPAP breathing device for the entire night—that’s one of those breathing masks attached to an explosive tank next to your bed. Or worse, they would have to undergo a painful and invasive surgery.

Luckily, all that has changed!

Now there is the chin strap by MySnoringSolution. It’s a comfortable and affordable treatment for OSA that keeps your breathing passages open while you wear it in bed. This treatment method has been found to be effective in a recent study at the Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Division of Sleep Medicine and it is clinically tested and doctor approved. It works by keeping the jaw and tongue from loosening up, thereby keeping the airway unobstructed. Made from lightweight materials with the sleeper’s maximum comfort in mind, the chin strap has helped thousands get the sleep that their bodies have always needed at night.

MySnoringSolution is so sure the chin strap will solve all of your sleep apnea troubles, no matter what your reason, you have 90 days to return your chin strap and get a full refund of your money (so you basically risk nothing by trying this out).

It’s not just about getting a full night’s sleep— it’s about getting to sleep in a way that is comfortable for you. Try MySnoringSolution now, get a good night’s sleep at last and end your snoring problems once and for all!

Cracking WPA/WPA2 – PSK Encryption

About a month ago, to my embarrassment, I learned that my Wi-Fi password was so weak that even my 10 year old neighbour could crack it…
No, not really.

A little Disclaimer – The contents of this post are solely for ethical and educational purposes. You may not use it for unethical purposes. The Author or the Website is not responsible for any damage to yourself, your network, or the computers in you network, should something go wrong. (Basically guys, be careful where you use this and please don’t do anything stupid.)

We’re going to start with a little introduction to Kali Linux, because that is the OS I prefer, is the easiest for this task and comes with all the tools we need. “Kali” is a Linux distribution and is the successor to the much acclaimed Backtrack, which many of you reading this article will probably know of. Now, there are many ways of installing and using Kali, if anyone needs any help, leave in the comments, and I will probably write another post about installing and its basics in the future.

In this tutorial, I’m going to hack into a Wi-Fi hotspot that I just set up, named – Anonymus.
Now, given that we have Kail Linux, open up a terminal window, type in “ifconfig “. This is going to list all the networking interfaces connected to your device.

Here, we only need (wlan0) which is our Wi-Fi card, so we can disable the others by doing “ifconfig <name of the interface> down”.
(“lo” does no matter)…

Now, we type “airmon-ng start wlan0”

(airmon-ng is just a tool for monitoring air traffic, “start” basically starts the tool, and “wlan0” specifies the interface we are using for monitoring)
It’ll probably show “some processes that could cause trouble”, we’ll simply kill those processes by entering “kill <process ID>”.

Now if we do “ifconfig”, it should show us the newly made monitoring interface “mon0”.

Then, put in, “airodump-ng mon0”.
In the screenshot below, the highlighted bssid is our target (and it is my own), named “Anonymus”, the channel is 13 as we can see under the “CH” column.

For our next step we type in, “airodump-ng –c <channel> -w <name> –bssid <bssid> mon0”.

Let me explain a few things here, “airodump-ng” is a tool for capturing Wi-Fi packets, “<channel>” means the channel your target is running on, “-w” basically writes a file by the name that succeeds it in “<name>”, (I did “handshake” just for the convenience of it) bssid is a string of numbers specific to a hotspot.

Now, open up a new terminal and type in “aireply-ng -0 0 –a <bssid> mon0”, this command send a deauthentication signal (usually called a deauth packet) to all the devices connected to that hotspot. Then after a few seconds we stop it by “Ctrl+C”. Now, as we can see, the other terminal shows that the WPA Handshake was successfully captured.

We can close both windows at this point, and open a new one. Type “ls”; that should list the files in the current directory. We can clearly see that the files from the above operation are present. But we only need the file ending with “-01.cap”.

Then we do, “aircrack-ng –w <full location of the wordlist> <the file name>”.

You may be asking what wordlist? What is that sh*t?
A Wordlist is a file containing thousands of known and possible passwords, which you can download from the internet (“specifying from the internet” – We ain’t dumb, boy! :P). The one I used can be found here. The list contains 982,963,904 words exactly all optimized for WPA/WPA2. Would also just like to point out that this is not my work, I got it from forums.hak5.org. It was a guy who compiled a whole load of useful lists, including his own to come up with 2 lists (one is 11gb and one is 2gb) I will be seeding this torrent indefinitely since it is shareware and awesome!

It will then start searching for matching keys in the word list. Now the time that this will take is solely dependent on the strength of the password. The stronger the password the more time will it take. For very strong passwords, check this out. For tips on creating your own strong password – Top 10 Tips to Create a Strong Password
After completion it looks something like the screenshot below. In it, you can see that it tested 45688 keys and my key was the 45689th. I purposely put futurama because frankly, futurama is awesome! Also it is a very weak password (People reading this, if your password is “futurama”, you’re cool! The Hell? Change it right now!)

Now that we know the password, lets test it…

Annnnd… Voila! it works!

Knowing this you will be…

But beware, don’t use it on a Lannister… (Because a Lannister always pays his debts :P)
For those of you who didn’t understand that reference, #GameOfThrones!

New Virus In Android Phone Can Steal Passwords

According to TOI (Times of India) Cyber security has alerted about the infectious Trojan virus which attacks Android-based smart phone users. This virus is named as “AndroidSmssend” and it can acquire as many as four aliases to hoodwink the user and perpetrate its destructive activities on a personal Android enabled phone.

Android/SmsSend is a premium service abuser family malware that arrives bundled with legitimate Android applications and infects Android based smartphones.

“Once infected, it sends text messages (typically with a link to itself or a different threat) to a specific number, typically to numbers on the contact list and is also capable to send SMS to premium rate numbers,” the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) said in its latest advisory to Android phone users in the country.

The virus is so notorious, the agency said, that it “steals contacts and pictures, tracks the location, steals passwords, illegally accesses text messages, crashes a complete system, steals personal banking information when logged in, installs other sort of spyware and disables firewall and anti-virus program to defend itself.”

The agency has suggested some counter-measures in this regard.

“Do not download and install applications from untrusted sources, install applications downloaded from reputed application market only, run a full system scan on device with mobile security solution or mobile anti-virus solution, check for the permissions required by an application before installing, exercise caution while visiting trusted/untrusted sites for clicking links, install Android updates and patches and use device encryption or encrypting external SD card feature available with most of the android OS (operating system),” it said.

And also, avoid using unsecured, unknown Wi-Fi networks and make a practice of taking regular backup of the Android device, the advisory said.

The truth behind Facebook hacking scams

Hackers love the opportunity to show off their skills and make easy money. That’s why social networks are a prime target for them. They don’t want to snoop around for its own sake, they want personal information that can be used to make dollars. But with good virus protection you can keep them at bay.

Hacking a Facebook account

If you want to hack a Facebook account you might be surprised at the number of web sites offering to do so for free.  These ‘generous’ offers are usually accompanied by a little paean of praise and rationale, and typically say something like ‘we are offering a public service and we want to keep our hacking skills sharp.’

However, there’s a deep irony that runs through most of these offers – they’re scams designed to hook people in and take them through to other web sites or get them to apart with money, for example, pay $100 to have a Facebook account hacked.

Hacking a Facebook account requires knowledge and expertise. Some of the most common methods include planting key stroke loggers on the victims computer, phishing, mobile phone hacking, session hijacking and something called side jacking when the victim and hacker are on the same local area network.

But why would someone want to hack into a Facebook account?  Well, many people share their deepest secrets with friends online along with interests, hobbies likes and dislikes.  And some people somewhere will have an interest in discovering this such as a girlfriend or boyfriend.

Facebook hacking for stealing passwords

However, cyber villains are also interested in hacking accounts. The aim is to steal passwords and account information. It’s often done via a rogue application or some other type of malware such as a key logger or Trojan. It could be that a fake web site has been created that looks like Facebook or another online service and when a user visits they are tricked into logging into the site.

The account can then be used to sift for personal identity information or as a launch pad to bombard friends with requests to visit a fake web site where personal details are harvested.  A user may also find that all sorts of strange, inappropriate and pornographic content are being posted on their wall.

How can you be sure your Facebook account is safe?

If you think your account has been hacked you can visit Facebook at this link and it will provide information on what steps you can take. However, the danger is that if you’re account is infected by a virus it may have also wormed itself deeper into your computer. In this case you need to perform an antivirus scan.
