Xiaomi Mi Band to be available for sale from May 5, Xiaomi offer 1000 pieces for Rs.1.00 0

Registration for Xiaomi Mi Band starts today, to go on sale in India on May 5, Xiaomi offer 1000 pieces for Rs.1.00

Xiaomi Mi Band, the company’s first fitness tracking smart band, is scheduled to be up for sale on May 5 in India. The smart band was officially released in the country last week, along with the affordable Mi 4i smartphone.

Xiaomi has started taking registrations for the Mi Band through its Mi.com site to carry out its first flash sale. The sale will begin at 2 p.m. on May 5.

As an introductory offer, the Chinese company is set to give its first 1,000 units of Mi Band to customers for Re.1. However, the Mi Band will be available in the country with a price tag of Rs. 999. What is worth noting is that prior registration is compulsory for ordering the band on May 5.

According to the Xiaomi site, it states that the Mi Band units will be available for Re. 1 under a Special Preview. This implies that all those units “might not be eligible for standard warranty terms”.

Last year, Beijing-based Xiaomi announced the Mi Band as its wearable fitness tracker. Since then it has sold over a million units only in China. It has been created with an aluminium alloy core and comes in a hypoallergenic silicone band.

The Mi Band like other fitness tracking devices allows users to check their activity levels, track walking distance and determine calories burned through the data provided by its military-grade accelerometer. There is an 8mm, 41mAh battery under the fitness tracker unit that provides about 30-day of battery life on a single charge.

The Mi Band can also be used to unlock connected smartphones as well as provide notifications on new calls, messages and emails apart from its fitness tracking features. There is also a Bluetooth 4.0 LE support for pairing with Android and iOS devices. In addition, a Mi Fit app is available on the respective app stores so that it can be used on a wide variety of smartphones.

Pennsylvania teen sets a new world record of solving the Rubik’s cube in 5.25 seconds!!

Collin Burns, beats the old “World Rubik’s Cube Championship” of 5.55 seconds by solving 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube in just 5.25 seconds.

Collin Burns, a teen of Pennsylvania restores 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube in just 5.25 seconds………most people would take that time to just check the colors of the scramble and probably plan their first move whereas the new world champion can solve the entire puzzle in that much time!! For the past 40 years the Rubik’s cube has puzzled people across the globe. The 3D combination Rubik Cube scramble originated in 1974 under the “Magic Cube” moniker and was built by Hungarian Sculpture and architecture teacher Ernō Rubik. Measuring about 2.5 inches on each side, it contains 21 unique miniature cubes which allows for multiple solutions.

The previous world record of restoring the 3x3x3 Rubik’s cube in just 5.55 seconds was held by Mats Valk, from Netherlands.

Doylestown Spring 2015 organized the official World Cube Association (WCA) event at Central Bucks West High School, Doylestown, PA. The competitors were charged some fee whereas the spectators were allowed a free entry to this event. The proceeds from the competition would be donated to “A Woman’s Place” which is Bucks County’s only domestic violence prevention organization.

Last week, Saturday, during the final round of Rubik’s Cube competition which was being held in the cafeteria of the Bucks County high school, Collin Burns broke the old record and set a new world record of solving the Rubik’s cube puzzle in 5.25 seconds. The new record and Burns accomplishment was celebrated among huge screams of joy and excitement from all those who were present in the cafeteria at that moment.

Though, not much is known about Burns, however, he seems to be simply astonished at his achievement of completing the puzzle in such a short time. Further, Burns also wrote in You Tube video : “I lost my Hualong, so I used a Yuxin, my back up main,” wherein he also gave reference to different types of Speed Cube.

A WCA representative confirmed Mashable that though they have not updated the new record in the WCA database however, Collin Burns has set a new world record till now as the competition was an official WCA one.

As per Mashable’s report, the WCA official said: “Although this result has not been uploaded to the WCA database just yet, we can confirm that this is (or will be soon) the new official WCA world record for the 3x3x3 single solve category. To our best knowledge, it has been performed in an official competition, with all the rules being followed, even the scramble has been checked for its correctness.”

As per the WCA website, this international competition will continue till last week of October 2015 and it does provide more than 80 opportunities to the contestants across the world to break Burns record. On Saturday when Burns set a new record the competition was held at various other places including Chile, Philippines, Denmark, China, Canada, Brazil and Latvia.

By end of October it will be very much clear if some other participant steals away the title of “World Rubik’s Cube Championship” or Collin Burns retains his newly acquired glory!!

Check out What Happens When You Boil an iPhone 6, Galaxy S6

See what happens when you dunk the iPhone6, Galaxy S6 in boiling water

You are making a delicious spaghetti dinner and accidentally your favorite iPhone 6 or Galaxy S6 falls into a vessel of boiling water. How would your device hold its stand?

Well, you need not waste time to think about it any longer. YouTuber TechRax decided to find out the answer for this burning question. TechRax immersed both the phones in a vessel of boiling water to find out which one would its stand for a long time.

To start off, a brand-new, fully working Samsung Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 priced at $199 from Verizon, TechRax switched on the stopwatch app before dunking the phones in boiling water simultaneously at the same time. Please note that both the phones are most definitely not waterproof and this should not be tried at home.

After dropping them into the vessel, the iPhone screen turned into white almost immediately, then completely turned to black just after 10 seconds, while the Galaxy S6 was still ticking. “Man, 10 seconds for the iPhone 6, what is this?” the YouTuber says in disbelief.

At the end of 30 seconds, TechRax reduces the heat to prevent the water from boiling over, but the Galaxy S6 is still going strong, keeping time. At 55 seconds, the Galaxy S6 screen goes black for a brief time, however, then comes back on to display a warning message that the phone is overheating. You might be thinking that at this point, the Galaxy S6 is the winner, but wait not so quick.

See the video here

The Apple logo appeared on the iPhone 6 screen, the moment both the phones were removed out of the boiling water, indicating that it might have survived the test. TechRax then poured cold water on both the phones to cool them off enough the handle, and the iPhone started to show a hint of life with its faint Apple logo while the Galaxy S6 looked nothing but dead.

He then attempted to switch on the Galaxy S6, but it did not work. “Wow, so the iPhone 6 gets that last laugh,” the YouTuber says. However, a few more seconds later, the Apple logo vanished as well.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard wins PFA Player of the Year award

The best, most irreplaceable player on England's top team has, fittingly, captured the highest individual honor the Premier League has to offer.

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard was bestowed with the PFA Player of the Year award at the association's annual gala in London on Sunday, adding another bit of hardware to his increasingly clustered mantelpiece.

"I'm very happy. One day I want to be the best and what I did this season is play very well, Chelsea played very well. I don’t know if I deserve to win but it is good for me," Hazard said after receiving the award.

"It is good, it is better to be voted by the players - they know everything about football. This is good. I’m very happy."

The Chelsea star, 24, beat out five other nominees for the award, as Alexis Sanchez, David De Gea, Philippe Coutinho, Diego Costa and Harry Kane joined the Belgian on the shortlist for the honor.

Hazard - in the midst of his third season with the Blues since making the move from French side Lille - joins Sanchez as being the only players in the league with at least 13 goals and 8 assists on the campaign. Hazard is also near the top in a host of other categories, including matches and minutes played, key passes and successful dribbles.

"We are almost champions, maybe this is the key. Last season we finished third and this season we have an opportunity to win the league. This has changed from last season.

"I continue like I did last season - I try to be the same. I try to score more goals than last season. Personally I have played a good season, I have been there in the big games and I scored a lot of important goals, this is why I’m better this season."

Simply put, he's been the best player in the Premier League this season, and he's established himself as such while playing for the best team.

2015 Already Setting Heat Records

global temperature

The first three months of 2015 set new global heat records, government officials announced today (April 17).
January, February and March set new high-temperature records, respectively; each month was warmer than any on the books since record keeping started 136 years ago. March also ended the hottest 12-month period on record, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported. Seven of the past 11 months have tied or set new record-high monthly temperatures.
In March, Earth's average temperature was 56.4 degrees Fahrenheit (13.6 degrees Celsius), breaking the previous record set in 2010 by 0.09 F (0.05 C). The Japan Meteorological Agency also put March in first place, as the hottest month ever in its records, while NASA put it in third place, behind 2010 and 2002. Yet, all three agencies agree that the 12 months to date are the hottest ever. [Fishy Rain to Fire Whirlwinds: The World's Weirdest Weather]
Giant blobs of warm water in the tropical and northeast Pacific Ocean helped boost 2015 to the top of the rankings, according to the NOAA climate report. Like a pot of boiling water on a stove, the warm seawater radiates heat into the atmosphere and raises the planet's average temperature. The global average temperature includes measurements over land and ocean surfaces.
Because these warm-water pools are predicted to persist through year-end, more heat records could fall in the coming months. In the tropical Pacific, the warm water is linked to an ongoing El Niño, the cyclic phenomenon that shifts global weather. NOAA forecasts a 60 percent chance that the El Niño will last through fall.
March 2015's new record high was a bigger jump from the global average than records set during previous El Niño years, in February 1998 and January 2007, NOAA reported. The average March temperature over land surfaces across the globe was 2.86 F (1.59 C) above the 20th-century average.
During March, California saw record warmth, as did parts of the western United States and Canada, according to the report. Scandinavia, northwest Russia, south central China, northeast Australia and eastern Africa also baked under high temperatures, NOAA reported.
The only place on Earth with notably cooler-than-average temperatures in March was northeastern Canada. Despite the record-breaking snow and chilly temperatures along the Atlantic Coast earlier this year, no state set a new cold record in the first three months of 2015, according to NOAA.

Evidence of Pre-Columbus Trade Found in Alaska House

Archaeologists working at the Rising Whale site at Cape Espenberg, Alaska, have discovered several artifacts that were imported from East Asia.

Bronze artifacts discovered in a 1,000-year-old house in Alaska suggest trade was occurring between East Asia and the New World centuries before the voyages of Columbus.
Archaeologists found the artifacts at the "Rising Whale" site at Cape Espenberg.
"When you're looking at the site from a little ways away, it looks like a bowhead [whale] coming to the surface," said Owen Mason, a research associate at the University of Colorado, who is part of a team excavating the site.
The new discoveries, combined with other finds made over the past 100 years, suggest trade items and ideas were reaching Alaska from East Asian civilizations well before Christopher Columbus arrived in the Caribbean Sea in 1492 archaeologists said. [See Images of the New Discoveries at the Rising Whale Site]
"We're seeing the interactions, indirect as they are, with these so-called 'high civilizations' of China, Korea or Yakutia," a region in Russia, Mason said.
Bronze and obsidian
The Rising Whale discoveries include two bronze artifacts, one of which may have originally been used as a buckle or fastener. It has a piece of leather on it thatradiocarbondates to around A.D. 600 (more tests will take place in the future). The other bronze artifact may have been used as a whistle.
Bronze-working had not been developed at this time in Alaska, so archaeologists think the artifacts would have been manufactured in China, Korea or Yakutia, and made their way to Alaska through trade routes.
Also inside that house, researchers found the remains of obsidian artifacts, which have a chemical signature that indicates the obsidian is from the Anadyr River valley in Russia.
Trade routes
The recent discoveries at the Rising Whale site add to over a century of research that indicates trade routes connected the Bering Strait (including the Alaskan side) with the civilizations that flourished in East Asia before Columbus' time. [Top 5 Misconceptions About Columbus]
In 1913, anthropologist Berthold Laufer published an analysis of texts and artifacts in the journal T'oung Pao in which he found that the Chinese had a great interest in obtaining ivory from narwhals and walruses, acquiring it from people who lived to the northeast of China. Some of the walrus ivory may have come from the Bering Strait, where the animals are found in abundance.
Additionally, a number of researchers have noted similarities in design between the plate armor worn by people in Alaska and that worn in China, Korea, Japan and eastern Mongolia.
For instance, in the 1930s, Smithsonian Institution archaeologist Henry Collins undertook excavations at St. Lawrence Island, off the west coast of Alaska. In his book "The Archaeology of St. Lawrence Island" (Smithsonian, 1937), he wrote that plate armor started appearing on the island around 1,000 years ago. It consisted of overlapping plates made of ivory, bones and sometimes iron.
Plate armor similar to this was developed in several areas of East Asia, including Manchuria (in China), eastern Mongolia and Japan, Collins wrote. The use of plate armor, he said, spread north from these areas, and was eventually introduced to Alaska from across the Bering Strait.
Genetic evidence
Recent genetic research also sheds light on interactions between people from East Asia and the New World.
Many scientists say that humans first arrived in the New World around 15,000 years ago by crossing a land bridge that had formed across the Bering Strait. This land bridge was flooded about 10,000 years ago.
However, a recent genetic study suggests there were also movements of people from East Asia to the New World at a later date. Those who lived at the Rising Whale site may be part of what scientists refer to as the "Birnirk" culture, a group of people who lived on both sides of the Bering Strait and used sophisticated skin boats and harpoons to hunt whales.
The genetic study indicates that people from the Birnirk culture are the ancestors of a people called the "Thule," who spread out across the North American arctic as far as Greenland. The Thule, in turn, are ancestors of the modern-day Inuit.
Long before Columbus
The Bering Strait wasn't the only area where interactions between people from the Old World and New World occurred before Columbus' arrival. By 1,000 years ago, the Vikings had explored parts of Canada and had even established a short-lived settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland.
Research also indicates that, around this time, the Polynesians had reached South America, bringing sweet potatoes back to Polynesia and possibly bringing chickens to South America.
Many other hypotheses have been put forward suggesting that people reached the New World before Columbus. One idea that has received a lot of attention in popular media is that Chinese mariners sailed directly to the New World, although this idea lacks scholarly support.
Mason and his team will present their research on the Rising Whale site at the Canadian Archaeological Association annual meeting in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada, between April 28 and May 2.

Drone Update : Project Wing, Google’s Secret Delivery System Program

Google has admitted that it has been developing a delivery system based on drones which will possess the ability to deliver packages and perform other tasks.
This project is called Project Wing and it hints towards Google’s desires to expand its horizons and participate in this new game which was made buzz worthy by Amazon last year. Recently Amazon has announced that it will launch its Prime Air in upcoming months in India due to obstacles in USA.

This Project Wing is another outcome of Google X which is responsible for innovations like Google Glass, driverless cars and other “moonshot” projects. Google has been working on it for years and recently company has been testing its delivery drones in Australia. Project Wing looks like a story which looks unrealistic on a large scale in present scenario but Astro Teller of Google X has a different tale to offer. He says, “Working together we can get to this future, I think, surprisingly quickly.”

Google has conducted more than 30 test flights in Australia in mid-August which is the conclusion of the first phase of Project Wing. The drones which Google has been testing had plane like wings with rotors to help them to take off and land. “Australia’s rolling hills, open sky and long standing history of innovation with UAVs provided the perfect opportunity to safely put our prototype vehicles and delivery system through their paces outside of a controlled lab environment,” Google said. According to Goggle the drone flew 40 meters above the trees and dropped a chocolate bar package to a farmer in Queensland, Australia.
According to The Atlantic:
During this initial phase of development, Google landed on an unusual design called a tail sitter, a hybrid of a plane and a helicopter that   takes off vertically, then rotates to a horizontal position for flying around. For delivery, it hovers and winches packages down to the ground. At the end of the tether, there’s a little bundle of electronics they call the “egg,” which detects that the package has hit the ground, detaches from the delivery, and is pulled back up into the body of the vehicle.
With these recent developments in the field, we can see these drones delivering our packages sooner than we expected and it won’t seem much unusual as it is looking right now.

The Ultimate Freedom to Bike Where You Want To: Chop-e

Ever noticed how electric bikes…well…they just do not look cool. Even some of the most modern e-bike designs lack modern styling and flavor. But Chop-E changes all that. This electric bike looks like a cool cross between an electric bike and a street chopper. Go for miles on your Chop-E. Let it take you places that you never dreamed of going before, all on a single charge. Here, we will tell you more about the Chop-E. This might just be the new vehicle for you.

What Is It?

Not too long ago, two friends decided that the modern e-bike just did not cut it for them. Why not have something cooler? Something that would make others’ heads turn to look? And why not make the electric bike more comfortable to ride? With these two goals in mind, the Chop-E was born. Today a few prototypes of these bikes have been made. They have been driven both on-road and off-road. As you can imagine, they have definitely raised some eyebrows. The Chop-E features a large wheel at the back and a smaller one on the front. The styling is sleek, cool, and modern.

The Backstory

Di and Al are the designers of this bike. On April Fools’ Day they gathered together to talk about a new bike for Di. The (very) rough design that they hashed out that first night was thrown together with things in Di’s living room. But despite that, Al was sure they could make the idea happen. A few pictures were taken to document the idea. Within a few more weeks they had purchased the parts needed to create a prototype. Once one was done, they took it out for a spin around the neighborhood. A new type of e-bike was born.

Fund It Today!

The Chop-E is being touted as “the coolest electric bike ever built,” by the designers. They are also claiming that this product is not just a bike, but a lifestyle. The project is currently on Kickstarter. If you want to fund it, check them out there. You can learn more about the design, design process, and development of the prototypes. Personally, we really like just how cool the bike looks and how cool riders look while on it. It would be a great idea for your teenage speed demon who love to ride (or any teenager at heart).

Hacking Software Used in Sony Pictures Hack is Available Online for Everyone

Remember last year’s cyber-attack on Sony Pictures? The attack is yet to fade from people’s memory and now researchers have pointed out that such attacks are likely to occur in near future. A former hacker has said that right now there are about 4,000 people in the world who are capable of doing the same kind of damage to some other organization. He warned that the software needed to perform this hack in being sold online.

CNET reports that Jon Miller from the security form Cylance told “60 Minutes”: There are probably a couple thousand, three, four, five thousand people that could do [the Sony Pictures hack] attack today. Not all of them are in friendly countries and the number is growing rapidly.”

Jon Miller says that this tool used in Sony Pictures hack can be easily obtained from Russian hackers for $30,000.

The security levels in companies is not up to the mark and about 90 percent of them are prone to such attacks. In recent past, the number of security breaches into technology companies have increased rapidly and Sony Pictures hack incident was just one of them. With the progress in security measures, hackers are devising new ways to launch the attacks.

Apart from technology companies, government organizations too are under attack. Recently it was disclosed that the White House’s security was compromised by Russian hackers.

Sony Pictures hack was a work of North Korean hackers who were trying to threaten the studio and cancel the release of comedy movie “The Interview” as it was a satire on the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. A hacker group named #GOP – Guardians of Peace, took the responsibility and leaked the personal information of employees along with the unreleased movies and sensitive emails.

Google Being Forced to Reveal Its “Secret Search Algorithm” – The Heart of Google

Google’s secret search algorithm, the heart of Google, may not be a secret anymore. A law is under consideration in France that would force the search engine giant to reveal its most secret treasure- Google’s search algorithm. This would be one of the toughest supervisory over the internet company. The Financial Times has reported that the French government is passing a law in the French senate that could possibly force Google to publish the details of the method it uses to rank websites and show search results.

It is most likely that France will be passing this law this week and it will give rights to the national telecom regulator to keep an eye on Google’s search algorithm. It should be kept in mind that recently the Wall Street Journal published a report that lashed harsh allegations of FTC’s incompetence to trial Google for its unfair search algorithm.

According to a study, Google handles more than 90% of searches in Europe which is greater than its 68% share in the America.

Catherine Morin-Desailly, chair of the Senate’s culture, education and communication committee said: “The government is well aware of the issues. It’s a question of ensuring fairness. Too many businesses view search engines as bottlenecks. The net is tightening around [Google].”

On the other hand, the European Union has been harsher towards Google and is going to accuse the search engine of illegally favoring its own services. This move could harm Google big time and Google, obviously, isn’t happy.

A spokesperson for Google said:
Revealing our algorithms — our intellectual property — would lead to the gaming of our results, which would be a bad experience for users.

FT writes that this move should be seen as a part of growing bitterness for Silicon Valley in the European Union. In the past, American technology companies have faced charges due to tax theft, unfair business tactics and more. One of the most interesting cases was the “right to be forgotten” that required Google to provide a choice to the users to be forgotten.

Google’s search engine algorithm is the heart of Google and it will surely find a way to dodge this law. This algorithm is the key to its dominance and power. It is unclear how Google will react to this regulation in France. As the lost resort, Google could scrap its services from France the way it did in Spain last year as a result of some regulations.

Is Google going to reveal its search algorithm? Tell us in comments!

Hovertrax: the Power of a Hover Board in Your Hands

Who of us has not watched Back to the Future and dreamed of owning a device like the hover board? Although it’s not exactly a hover board (and not made by the folks at Mattel), the HOVERTRAX might be the closest thing on the market today. But what it the HOVERTRAX? How far can it take you? Why do we love it? In this post we will answer all of these questions and more. Getting from one place to another has never been so fun.

Get Around Indoors

So far, the HOVERTRAX is not ideal for all terrain. However, it is great if you are looking for a way to quickly and easily get around indoors or on flat surfaces. We think that this product would be great fun while cruising around your local park. Or take it for a spin around the office. The HOVERTRAX board is designed to remain stable for you even while taking curves or braking. Do not worry about taking it too fast! Thanks to 3 separate gyro sensors and accelerometers within the device itself, you will be just fine.

High Quality Materials & Long Battery Life

The HOVERTRAX is made of top-notch materials. This includes a sturdy polycarbonate casing, as well as N45 magnetic steel. The motor is also one of the most powerful and reliable on the market. Speaking of reliable, the battery life boasted by this board is awesome. A full charge takes only about a half hour. HOVERTRAX is made to make your charge last even longer, too. The board actually conserves energy when tackling any sort of incline or while you are applying the brake. Leave it to set for more than a few minutes and the board will turn itself off, as well.

Easily Portable

The HOVERTRAX is entirely portable. It weighs in at a slim 6.8 KG. This is great news for regular users. You can easily walk it up or down steep inclines. Toss it in your backpack to take it with you on short trips. Because the board itself is so small, you will also find that it is easy to stow it away in your home or office when not in use. A built-in kickstand makes storage even simpler. If you are looking for a fun, simple, and futuristic way to get around, this board is for you.

Cicret Smart Bracelet: Project a Touch Screen Onto Your Arm

If you wish there was an easier way to use your smartphone, the Cicret Smart Bracelet may be the perfect choice for you. This small, lightweight bracelet uses technology to project a touch screen onto your own arm so that you can access all the features of your phone without even taking it out of your pocket.

The Cicret bracelet throws a mobile screen onto your arm and has an array of sensors to pick up on how your fingers interact with the screen to control your phone’s applications. There are eight sensors in total that note the proximity of your finger to the images on your arm.

How Cicret Works

The Cicret bracelet is small and lightweight but it works with its own processor and storage features including a USB port. You can plug in a thumb drive and work from the add-on just as you would your own phone or tablet. It also has a vibration sensor so that it doesn’t overreact to every movement of your arm. Cicret band also offers a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. This makes it even easier for you to use and allows you to connect to the internet right from your own arm.

Advantages of the Cicret Smart Bracelet

Why use something like the Smart Bracelet? For one thing you don’t need to search for your phone when you need to check message or access the internet. You also don’t need to risk your phone if you need to use it, such as when in the bathtub or at a restaurant or party. Instead you can easily access every feature your phone offers without even taking it out of your pocket, keeping it safe and out of harm’s way.

The Cicret band might also make it safer to use your phone. While you should never text or talk on your phone when driving, it does make it more convenient and less distracting if you need to take an emergency call when behind the wheel or anyplace else. You can just quickly touch your own arm and not need to fumble for your phone

The Indiegogo campaign for the Cicret bracelet was paused a few days ago. The campaign has now been removed from the crowdfunding site. Authors say that the company is working on modifying a few things and promise to be back soon. The final product should be available for around $600 with no set release date.

Transfer Data Faster Than Ever Before with Keyssa’s Kiss Connectivity

Every day we are faced with times when it might be handy to quickly exchange information or data. But doing that can sometimes be frustrating. Do you put it into a shared folder on Cloud for others to access? Or do you simply hand them over a thumb drive that you might not get back? Rely on a spotty Wi-Fi connection? New Kiss Connectivity is a technological breakthrough that lets you transfer data and information differently, from one device to another, in seconds.

Fastest Data Transference Ever

How fast is fast? With Kiss Connectivity, you can transfer a movie of up to 1 gig in about 2 seconds. Best of all, even with these very fast speeds, the use of battery power is very minimal. There is no special software to install. Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections are bypassed. Instead, you are transferring data and information directly from one device to another. Any device with the Kiss Connectivity sensor installed anywhere on the device can transfer the data, no matter the type of smartphone, tablet, or cell phone that you might be using.

The Ultimate in Security

Transferring sensitive data over the internet can be a bad idea. What happens if someone else is able to intercept your data? Or, what happens if someone gains access to your account in the cloud to possibly leak or steal you information, pictures, and more? Kiss Connectivity promises data and device security. No one else can access your information unless you allow them to by pairing your devices by placing them next to one another. Your Kiss device will is safely tucked away inside your phone, safe away from prying devices, eyes, and even the weather and the elements.

Charging Your Phone with a Lamp?

Tablets, smartwatches, smartphones, and other devices have now become an important part of our daily lives. They help us stay on-schedule, on-task, connected, and up-to-date. But they all have the same weakness: each of our devices needs a charge. Without a properly charged device, you may run into daily issues. No one likes to miss phone calls, messages, texts, or emails. With the Accoona lamp, however, you never have to worry about a drained battery again. This lamp could change your life!

The Problem It Solves

Ever wish that you always had a charger on your desk at home or the office? Tired of messy wires or cords? If so, then the Accoona is right for you. It offers a wireless charger that allows you to charge your device simply by sitting your device on its rounded, flat bottom. Your device can charge without any tangled cords or plug-ins to worry about. Charge your phone while you read, sip a cup of tea, socialize with loved ones, or do your work at the office. Never worry about packing a charger with you again.

Wireless Charging at Home or at the Office

Since the Accoona is a lamp, you can place one anywhere. Its stylish, modern, and sleek design means it is right at home in your office, your living room, bedroom, or even kitchen. It’s a dedicated charger that always looks good and is always there to shed a bit of light on something. Just like other lamps in your home, there is no need for any sort of specialized installation. Just plug it in, install the specialized adaptor for your phone model on your phone, and you are ready to go. Charge your device whether the lamp light is on or off.

Massive Device Compatibility

So far, the Accoona lamp is yet another product that we love that is still in the development stages. The designers claim that this lamp is compatible with every brand of phone at the moment except for Motorola and Sony phones. We imagine a future where every home, office, and table at every restaurant will have something like this. Think of the convenience! With a novel idea like this we could finally ditch all our wired chargers and stop hunting for an electrical outlet everywhere that we go. Instead, our phones would always be charged and ready to go.

Hybrid Power Could Let Drones Fly for Hours

Companies like Amazon are annoyed by the FAA's draft drone rules that restrict commercial use of unmanned aircraft. But the regulations may be a moot point unless delivery drones can actually get where they're going and back. Commercially available quadcopter drones such as the popular DJI Phantom 2 can fly only half an hour or so on a day that isn't too windy while carrying less than a pound of payload. Before the drone revolution happens in force, manufacturers must extend the flying time.

Top Flight, a startup out of Malden, Mass., says it has the answer to the range problem in the form of hybrid propulsion, a little like what's in many new cars. The company's drones in development carry gasoline-powered generators that charge their onboard batteries in flight. The result, COO John Polo says, is a drone with six 26-inch rotors that can fly more than two hours at a time in gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, while carrying payloads such as cameras, infrared sensors, or crop-spraying equipment.

"The concept of a hybrid engine is an onboard generator," Polo says. "It's generating juice all the time. It's generating juice for the motors, and it's generating juice for the electronics and whatever is on the payload."

Military grade

Top Flight is barely a year old and employs fewer than 10 people. But, Polo says, what separates his people is their pedigree. The market is now full of companies like DJI, 3D Robotics, and Parrot that build hobbyist-grade RC aircraft and are trying to make them viable for commercial use. "The manufacturers that manufacture from that bottom-up thinking don't understand how to make something really safe and redundant, let alone try to fly it beyond the capacity of a battery," he says.

By contrast, Polo's Top Flight team is made up of engineers who came from working on military drones, and the military has already tackled the challenges of extended flight and carrying heavy payloads. "We're following in those footsteps, but making those commercially viable at a much lower price," Polo says.

Top Flight is aiming for a price point between the $1,000 that DJI charges for a Phantom 2 with camera and the $100,000 price tag for a typical high-end drone that runs on gasoline-only propulsion. "At $19,000, you'll be able to carry five pounds for two and a half hours, fly 100 miles semi- or fully autonomously, and have gads of redundancy built into it," Polo says.

The startup is working with clients who want the first production models for industrial applications such as oil pipeline inspection. The company plans to have prototypes ready for customer testing by the end of the summer, and more refined versions for customers by the end of the fall. While this first version will carry five pounds, Top Flight is planning a 30-pound-payload model. "At some point, when it's called for, we'll build something at 200 pounds of payload," Polo says.

Drone traffic control
Batteries are just one piece of the technological puzzle needed to be solved for widespread commercial drone use. Another big challenge for widespread commercial drone use will be managing all the traffic. Imagine potentially hundreds or even thousands of drone flights in a given area at once as delivery drones compete with flying traffic cams and police drones for airspace.

SkyWard, a startup based in Portland, OR, is working on drone dispatching and routing software that would treat the flying machines like packets in the Internet, routing each unit to its destination via the optimal path while avoiding collisions. SkyWard is planning a series of demos through its Urban SkyWays Project, first in London this May and then in Vancouver in June, Nevada in July, and in Portland in September.

Another company vying for dominance in drone traffic control is $3.3 billion defense contractor Exelis, which plans to add drone tracking to the ADS-B system it built for the FAA and that is already in place for tracking manned aircraft. Exelis' program manager for unmanned aerial systems, Christian Ramsey, tells PM that his company will officially announce its drone-tracking offerings in April and demo them at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International conference in Atlanta in May.

All of which will be overkill unless drones can fly far enough and carry enough weight to be commercially useful on a large scale, which is why Top Flight is focused on making that possible. If the future really does look like a thousand commercial drones doing business all over the country, maybe we'll have hybrid tech to thank for it.

I Wont Send Jonathan To Prison, No Need To Be Afraid – Buhari

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has assured President Goodluck Jonathan that he has nothing to fear from his administration, but sources say that is if Jonathan’s hand is clean.

Buhari, in his acceptance speech after being declared the winner of Saturday’s presidential election and presented with certificate of return in Abuja on Wednesday, said “despite the rancour of the elections,” he harboured no grudge against anyone.

To prove this, he extended “a hand of friendship and conciliation to Jonathan and his team.”

During the campaigns, Jonathan’s wife was really afraid that Buhari will send her husband to prison.

But while reading his speech, Buhari said he is set to stabilize Nigeria. He also reiterated his determination to end insurgency in the North-East, rescue the economy and stem corruption which he described as an evil worse than terrorism.

The President-elect said even though there could be a disagreement between him and Jonathan over governance, the President remained a great Nigerian.

He said, “Let me state clearly that President Jonathan has nothing to fear from me. Although we may not agree on the methods of governing the nation, he is a great Nigerian and still our president. He deserves our support and permanent respect by virtue of the office he has held.

“This is how an honourable nation treats its servants and conducts its affairs. I should be looking forward to meeting with President Jonathan in the days to come to discuss how our teams can make the transition of administrations as efficient as possible.”

On insurgency, he said, “No doubt, this nation has suffered greatly in the recent past, and its staying power has been tested to its limits by crises, chief among which is insurgency of the Boko Haram.

“There is no doubt that in tackling the insurgency, we have a tough and urgent job to do. But I assure you that Boko Haram will soon know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror, and bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas. We shall spare no effort until we defeat terrorism.”

He added, “We shall strongly battle another form of evil that is even worse than terrorism — the evil of corruption. Corruption attacks and seeks to destroy our national institutions and character.

“By misdirecting into selfish hands funds intended for the public purpose, corruption distorts the economy and worsens income inequality. It creates a class of unjustly-enriched people.

“Such an illegal yet powerful force soon comes to undermine democracy because its conspirators have amassed so much money that they believe they can buy government.

“We shall end this threat to our economic development and democratic survival. I repeat that corruption will not be tolerated by this administration.”

Eight New Planets Discovered In Goldilocks Zone: NASA

American Astronomical Society announced in a press conference that NASA’s Kepler space telescope has picked out another eight new planets i.e. “exoplanets” in the “Goldilocks zone”. Very interestingly two of these planets are expected to support life or more precisely “Alien life”.

Under the Kepler mission, NASA has been able to discover many exoplanets of different stars. Discovery of eight new planets in the very beginning of 2015 is considered to be a sign of a positive future.
Exoplanets are those planets which do not orbit the Sun instead these orbit some different star. Goldilocks zone aka Habitable zone is the area where a planet should be located orbiting its star to support existence of liquid water and nourishment of life.

Kepler-438b and Kepler-442b- two of the discovered eight new planets astronomers suggest being most similar to Earth. In fact the two came up to be closest in similarity to Earth among all exoplanets recorded till date. Both orbit red dwarf stars that are smaller and cooler than Sun; Kepler-438b which is 470 light years away from Earth completing an orbit in 35 days while Kepler-442b is 1100 light years from Earth completes in 112 days.
According to conditions required to be in the habitable zone, a planet should be present at a suitable distance from its star. It should receive as much radiations from its star as Earth does from Sun. Any deflection would lead to either freezing or boiling away of water.

The possibility of being in the Goldilocks zone of a star depends upon the amount of radiations it receives from the star. And the chances of being a rocky planet correspond to the size of a planet.

Kepler-438b has a diameter 12 percent larger than Earth and receives about 40 percent more light than Earth. Thus according to the team it has 70 percent probability of being rocky and same prospect of being in the Goldilocks zone of its star. On the other hand Kepler-442b is approximately one-third larger than Earth and receives two-thirds as much radiations as Earth. It gets 60 percent chances of being rocky and 97 percent being in the habitable zone.
Past this, the two most Earth-like planets known were Kepler-186f, which is 1.1 times the size of Earth and receives 32 percent as much light; and Kepler-62f, which is 1.4 times the size of Earth and gets 41 percent as much light.

“From the Kepler measurements and the other measurements we made, we don’t know if these planets have oceans with fish and continents with trees,” Dr Caldwell told BBC News. “All we know is their size and the energy they’re receiving from their star,” he added.

Such discoveries tend to evolve many curious questions about new planets. Does life exists on them? Do we have company across universe? Comment down a discussion.

The Nixie- World’s First Wearable Drone Camera, Your Selfie Assistant of Future

A program called Make It Wearable (MIW) Challenge was launched by Intel around a year ago. The program was an amalgamation of competitions, entrepreneurship mentoring and guidance. The program aimed at creating unique wearable devices of the future. Its final event will be organized on 2-3 November and ten teams of enthusiastic and young individuals were selected to develop the next big thing in this field.

There are a lot of times when I’m alone or I’m with my friends and we want to take a group picture. I know this has happened to you too. A lot of people don’t like taking selfies, they always prefer a proper photograph. I like taking selfies but when I came across this challenge and The Nixie, I thought maybe this could solve this simple problem someday.

As a part of this challenge, Team Nixie is developing world’s first wearable drone camera. This can be worn around our wrists. Yes, it is a wearable selfie drone!

Image : Intel
This is a small drone which has a camera. When you want to take a picture, this drone untangles itself and launches off your wrist, adjusts the frames, does some balancing and focusing tricks and clicks your picture and returns back to you obediently.

The project was the idea of Christoph Kohstall whos is a physics researcher at Stanford and other teammates include Jelena Jovanovic and Michael Niedermayr.

Well, currently this is in developing stage and Team Pixie is having a prototype right now. This will take time to develop and cross the hurdles in its way but the concept is pretty innovative.

In the program, Team Nixie has earned $50,000 funding and with Intel’s support this can become a reality someday.

Drones – A New Player In The Game

Senator Charles Schumer from New York raised the question of policing the increasing drone activity in various parts of United States and in particular called New York City as the “Wild West” for the same.
He demanded an immediate regulation for small remote controlled aircraft. Not much long ago, drones were a rare sight in any part of the world but an enormous growth has been recorded in the recent past. They are said to interfere with airspace, have been used to spy people and some more shocking activities like delivering drugs have also been reported. “This year, a drone was caught flying into a maximum security prison in South Carolina carrying marijuana,” Schumer told reporters.

The Amazon PrimeAir
This is not the first time someone has tried to use an unmanned aerial vehicle for this kind of contraband smuggling operation. In March, Motherboard listed some previous drone smuggling operation (that we know of), including cases in Canada, Georgia, and Australia.

Two men were charged with irresponsible endangerment in July after the police said a drone they were flying in Upper Manhattan came within 800 feet of a New York Police Department helicopter near the George Washington Bridge.

Drones are another popular tool in photographer’s hand these days. In July, the Federal Aviation Administration opened an investigation into whether a drone sent aloft by the photographer at the wedding of Representative Sean Patrick Maloney, Democrat of New York, in Cold Spring, N.Y., broke rules on airspace restrictions.

“Right now, unlike a manned-aircraft pilot who can get a license from the F.A.A., there’s no official training program for small drones,” said Brendan M. Schulman, a lawyer in Manhattan who represents a number of drone operators and enthusiasts. “What you’re seeing is popularity because they don’t require any particular expertise to get going. What you’re seeing is people buying these devices off the shelf and operating them without any experience or training because they’re easy to use.”

Drones are a big part of our lives, whether we see them or not. All big companies are playing with the idea of using them in one way or the other and still the question remains unanswered. Regulations on drones, when and how much? ?

Nature Inspired Robotic Materials Developed That Can Think

Scientists say that the advancement in material sciences, algorithms and manufacturing processes have given a major boost to the field of robotics and it has led to a revolution in the robotic materials. The way for development of prosthetics (artificial body parts) with a realistic sense of touch has been made smoother with the use of nature inspired robotic materials. Following this, now it is even possible to construct bridges that can self-repair themselves and vehicles that have camouflaging abilities just like animals and insects.

These nature inspired robotic materials are being developed by Nikolaus Correll and his team. The team looked at the organisms like cuttlefish, which alter their appearance based on their surroundings and environment, and the Banyan tree, which grows above-ground roots to support the increasing weight of its trunk. This made them wonder how to engineer such a system.

They wanted that while materials can already be programmed to change some of their properties in response to a specific stimulus, there should be such robotic materials that can sense stimuli and determine how to respond to it on their own. To develop nature inspired robotic materials, they worked on the example of artificial skin equipped with microphones which would analyze the sounds of a texture rubbing the skin and transmit information back to the central computer only when important events occurred. Correll said in a review published in a science journal that the human sensory system has the capability to automatically filter out things like the feeling of clothes rubbing on the skin. He added that an artificial skin with possibly thousands of sensors could do the same thing and it would only report to the Brain if it touches something new.

Nature inspired robotic materials
The development of all these sort of nature inspired robotic materials is now possible, but manufacturing of these materials on a large scale still remains to be a challenge. Moreover, researchers say that this field faces an education gap as developing robotic material require interdisciplinary knowledge which is currently not available through any of the material sciences, computer sciences or robotics curriculum alone.

Correll believes that in the future, the use of nature inspired robotic materials is going to be ever-widening. For him, robotic materials, in future, are going to be used in everyday life items like shoes soles that can sense pressure and then adapt their stiffness to adjust while walking or running.

These findings were originally published in journal Science.

How to See If your Email is Being Tracked

Many of us probably think that what is the benefit of tracking a mail, so why should I care, right? Wrong! Everyone is stealing or trying to steal as much data as possible. Today, information is worth everything. Companies send you emails they’ve already got vetted. The one who do such activities can see when you open a mail, what you click after that and what is your location.

They track emails by adding small images or pixels that inform them about your data. These tracking tools work once you click the mail, so the only method to stop being tracked by anyone is not by opening that mail. The question here is how one can know if the mail is the safe one or the tracked one before opening it.

Today I came across a tool called “Ugly Email” which will do this job for you. Ugly email checks all your emails and exposes the ones being tracked. Each tracked mail is shown with an “evil eye” to easily recognize such emails.

Currently, this works by detecting pixels from Yesware, Streak, MailChimp, Mandrill, Bananatag and Postmark. They are actively working on adding more.

Here are the simple steps to make it work:

Step 1:

Open your Google Chrome browser on your PC.

Step 2:

Click this link to install Ugly Email to save yourself from tracked emails.

Step 3:

Click “Add to Chrome” in the new tab and you are good to go.

Step 4:

The next time you receive an e-mail, a tiny eye symbol will be there. It is an indication if it is vetted by any tracking tool.

Note:

This tool only works with Gmail and is currently available as a Chrome extension. They are working to add Firefox support very soon.

Some of you might not see eye symbol on any of your e-mail, that’s because you got no vetted mails. Congrats
