Short Bytes: This new Rubik’s Cube puzzle solving robot arranges a completely scrambled Rubik’s cube in flashes of seconds. It has far left behind the previous machine and human record in Rubik’s Cube puzzle solving.
On YouTube, a recent video was uploaded by Jay Flatland and Paul Rose. This uploaded video was showing how a new robot was able to solve the Rubik’s cube puzzle within a few flashes of a second. This robot uses stepper motors for movement. This stepper motor is fixed to a 3D printed frames into holes drilled into a Rubik’s Cube.
There are four USB webcams which constantly scan the cube and determine the state of the colors on the cube. Then, they send the information to the PC and based on the same information, the robot takes the further steps in solving the puzzle. The information fed to the PC is an implementation of the Kociemba Rubik’s cube-solving algorithm, which determines what moves are needed to solve the cube very rapidly.
To test the ability of the machine, the duo covers the camera first and then, scrambles up the Rubik cube. And then, they switch on the camera and load up the robot which solves the cube in just 1.047 seconds, which is far ahead of previous machine record of 3.253 seconds and the human record of 4.904 seconds.
